Seven arrested after Birmingham city centre firework disorder

A disturbance took place in Birmingham city centre, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals. The situation involved fireworks being ignited near police personnel and their vehicles, as captured in videos circulating on social media showing crowds on Corporation Street.
In response to previous serious incidents during last year’s Bonfire Night, West Midlands Police had issued warnings that they would take strong action against any fireworks-related disorder. The seven people detained, ranging in age from 15 to 26, face allegations including assault, possession of fireworks, and possession of an offensive weapon. All suspects remain in custody pending further questioning.
Police applied Section 60 stop-and-search powers, which enable officers to conduct searches without needing reasonable suspicion. The arrests occurred near Stephenson Street and Corporation Street after law enforcement officers intervened in multiple instances of disorderly conduct involving fireworks being used dangerously.
Ch Supt Tom Boyce emphasized the risks and legal consequences of improper fireworks use, stating, “Misusing fireworks is not only dangerous: it’s illegal and can lead to fines, arrest and criminal charges.” Additional officers were placed at strategic points throughout the city to deter any repetition of last year’s violence, when 21 arrests were made following attacks with fireworks on Dale End and Staniforth Street on November 6, 2025
