Quentin Tarantino and Kylie Minogue film movie in Porthcawl

Welsh filmmaker Jamie Adams had an extraordinary experience when he shared a drink with Quentin Tarantino, the acclaimed director behind Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, in a local pub. This remarkable moment was only the beginning of an exciting journey for Adams, who also brought singing sensation Kylie Minogue and Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA to the coastal town of Porthcawl to work on his latest film.

The arrival of these prominent figures earlier this year generated a significant buzz in the seaside community. Adams described the experience of collaborating with his idols in his hometown as “an out of body experience.” This wasn’t his first time attracting big-name talent to south Wales; in 2019, he worked with Jennifer Grey, known for Dirty Dancing, on his film Bittersweet Symphony.

For Tangled Up in Blue, Adams incorporated meaningful local settings, including the pub once run by his father. The establishment, formerly called the Ship and Castle, features a bar made from a boat that his dad brought from Weymouth, the filmmaker’s birthplace. Reflecting on the surreal nature of the experience, Adams shared, “So I’ve got Quentin Tarantino having a pint with me in my dad’s old pub, talking to Neil, one of my old pals, who I’ve known since I was like eight years old.”

The movie’s storyline centers on a talent manager, played by Tarantino, who has spent four decades managing legendary artists but now finds himself at a crossroads, trapped in a hotel bar between an old love and a lost soul. The inclusion of these superstars came together seamlessly after Adams completed filming in France the previous year
